We used red cabbage to make our own pH indicator solution by adding boiling water to it.
We chose six different solutions to test: water, lemon juice, bicarbonate of soda, vinegar, soap and tea. When we added our cabbage indicator to each solution, it turned it a different colour depending on its pH. We were then able to order our solutions from the most acidic to the most alkaline using a pH colour scale.
