Welcome to 6Y!
Welcome to 6Y. Below is a picture of our fantastic class! We are taught by Mr Yarrow and Mr Yarrow gets help from Mrs Hepplewhite, Mrs Emerton and Mrs Bowers! Mrs Mason also teaches in our class. We have fun but at the same time know that we must work hard all the time to achieve our goals. Enjoy our class page.
HOME LEARNING:Goes out on a Friday and must be returned by the following Wednesday. You can bring it in earlier if you like but the deadline is Wednesday. Please put your home learning in the correct boxes in the corridor.
HOME LEARNING CLUBS: To encourage you to complete your home learning to the best of your ability we give up our time to put on 3 clubs each week. As soon as you have brought in both your maths and literacy home learning books then you can sign up on the windows. The earlier you return your books, the more chance that you have of choosing your preferred club.
HOME READERS: These also go out on a Friday and are due in by the following Friday. You need to read a minimum of 30 minutes and get this recorded and signed by an adult each week. Once you have returned your home reader in the correct box, Mrs Hepplewhite will sign them off and add a sticker to your 'Sonic Game Chart' where you will gain rewards at the end of each half term. The more you read, the more reward you will gain!
YEAR 6 RESIDENTIAL TO FAIRTHORNE MANOR
10TH - 14TH OCTOBER 2016
We have attached a copy of a slideshow below which shows photos of all the children taking part in a variety of activities. Thank you to all the children for their excellent behaviour throughout the week and we hope you had an amazing time.
My thoughts of residential!
I really enjoyed all the activities and games we played there like Raft building,Jacobs ladder and many more.On Wednesday night we had a disco and it was a whole lot of fun.On Jacobs ladder Mrs Mason climbed all the way too the top. Then she couldn't get down!!!People had really good ideas in the initiative test and brain stormed them. All together it made a real good trip altogether.
AFC Bournemouth - OCTOBER 2016
We are fortunate to be one of the schools selected to have coaches from AFCB in to coach our children in their PE lessons on Tuesday afternoons. Each week has a theme and is linked with a particular player on the team. There are some photos below showing your child learning dribbling techniques and a superb tennis warm up game!
NOVEMBER 2016 - INSTRUCTIONS/COOKING! We decided to link our literacy work on instructional texts with DT and the children made some scones! They carefully followed recipes and learned the technique of the rubbing-in method. They enjoyed sampling their creations at the end. Hopefully we will be able to make similar ones again, but next time we could add our own additional ingredients.
We performed our showcase to a large of group of family members who were entertained with thought-provoking poems, inspirational dances, acting and art work to portray silhouettes from the war. We were so proud of all of our children who read so clearly, performed so admirably and who made us reflect on the importance of remembering all those involved with war and conflict around the world. Below are examples of how we arranged the home-made poppies around a candle of Remembrance plus the boards showing their research on poppies and Michael Morpurgo. The pictures also show the boards where our artwork was displayed.
Well done to everyone.
Don't forget to order your class anthology for £2. Send your child in with the money and we shall ensure that you receive all their poems. The money will be donated to the poppy appeal.
Monday 5th December 2016 - CRIME SCENE - TROPHY CABINET
The children came in to investigate a theft in the entrance hall of St. Walburga's. They needed to use their detective brains to find clues. The office staff also showed CCTV footage of possible criminals.
TO BE CONTINUED........
Wednesday 14th December 2016 - PARTY DAY!
We spent time in groups baking Christmas cookies. The children used their 'rubbing in' method and decorated their masterpieces with icing and sprinkles! Thank you to the adults for helping us in the kitchen!

AFC BOURNEMOUTH FINAL COACHING SESSION
We all met a professional footballer!
This was the last session in our ten-week training programme with the AFB coaches. We played a variety of matches and had the opportunity to meet and talk to Benik Afobe (as well as the famous Steve Fletcher!) Each child had the opportunity to shake the hands of each player and meet them!
WHAT A TREAT!
DESIGN TECHNOLOGY - PULLEYS
Tuesday 17th January 2017
We helped Jack (from Jack and the Beanstalk) get his golden goose down from the top of the beanstalk. We thought of a pulley system idea and the children created a pulley system for transportation. They then worked as a team to combine their pulleys together in order to move the goose. Photos of the stages (including some successful results) are shown below.
Netball MATCH - Thursday 19th January 2017

TAG RUGBY TOURNAMENT - Tuesday 7th March 2017
We competed in the Bournemouth tag rugby festival having selected a mixed team of both classes. The children played really well, scoring tries, tagging their opponents and most of all, having fun! They were unfortunate not to win any games but they came close with several and got better and better. They drew against one team in an end-to-end 10 minutes with the score ending at 7 all. I was really proud that our team was presented 1st for FAIR PLAY and they thoroughly deserved their position in the next stage due to their positive attitude and fair play towards others throughout the tournament. Mr Yarrow.
CHINESE NEW YEAR!
We were fortunate enough to have small sessions in the hall with an instructor who taught us the drums, how to operate the dragon and lion. Some of us were then selected to perform in front of different key stages.
EXCITING OPPORTUNITY! AFC Bournemouth invitation (Monday 20th March)
Please see the attached letter from one of the coaches who led our Primary Stars programme. In order to select our 10 students from year 6, we have decided to use a raffle ticket idea. Each green card will equal 1 raffle ticket. The more green cards you receive over the next two weeks, the more raffle tickets you could earn for the raffle box. On Friday 31st March, we will select 10 raffle tickets ( 10 children) to receive an invitation for the details on the letter attached. Please work on your behaviour and be a role model for all.
SOWING THE SEED - Friday 31st March 2017
In 6Y we decided to create and sell popcorn, recyclable key rings, decorated pebbles and Wimbledon tennis balls (previously played with by Lucy Shuker). We decided that the RNLI would be our dedicated charity and we invited Adrian Boyd to come and support our event with posters, banners and life jackets. Below are some of the photos when we were selling our products.
OUR POPCORN PRODUCTION LINES!
We had 10 children in each production line and each person had a specific role. We managed to produce approximately 80 bags in just over an hour which is pretty good doing! The room smelt lovely afterwards. Below are some photos.
TAG RUGBY FESTIVAL - WEDNESDAY 5TH APRIL 2017
As we qualified for the final based on 'Fair Play' in our last tournament, we went along to Leaf Academy for our next challenge! We had several inspirational speakers as well as a dance group and singers to open the festival. We didn't win any games but drew one game against St. Luke's and were within 1 or 2 tries against other schools. Well done everyone.
Saturday 22nd April 2017 - TRIP TO AFC BOURNEMOUTH STADIUM (Written by Ryan George and Tilly Gibson)
On Saturday, ten lucky Year Sixes (chosen by a raffle) went to the Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth to see the AFCB vs Middlesbrough game and play three matches on a 3G pitch. We arrived at 11:30 and changed into the AFCB kit (provided by the staff) and went to the 3G pitch. We played two matches against Moordown St. John and then against each other (6Y vs 6D). As a surprise, we were all given a free AFCB T-shirt!
Afterwards, we went into the stadium to watch the game. We had great seats because we were right behind the goal. AFCB scored two goals in the first 16 minutes of the first half. Then they scored another two goals in the second half, beating Middlesbrough 4-nil! We had great fun and enjoyed it a lot.
The children sat their SATS! We were very proud of how they handled the week and from what we saw, they attempted all the questions and tried to remember everything they could. If you wanted to know what the set up looked like then see below! Plus they enjoyed the orange squash and biscuits!
Moors Valley retreat day. Friday 12th May 2017
Following our busy SATS week we had the opportunity to have a nice day out at Moors Valley country park. We were also fortunate enough to try out the 'GO APE' junior course! Each child spent an hour on the high ropes courses and each route ended with a terrifying zip wire! We took photos of all the action and added this to a display in our corridor.
DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY - WOODEN ART FRAMES - Tuesday 16th May 2017
The children learned the techniques of measuring, joining, cutting and sanding their pieces of wood. This would be the basis for their frames for their fantastic art pieces, which will be displayed at their ART GALLERY evening (Wednesday 24th May 2017 6pm-7pm). Below are photos of the children working. It was an extremely busy morning and we very much appreciate the support the help of the parents that helped us.
Wednesday 7th June 2017 - TOUGH WALBURGA SPORTS DAY!
The sun was shining and the teachers were prepared! The children walked down, performed their warm up and then went straight to the 1st of 10 exciting new stations which tested their speed, control, team work, strength and strategy. Following this, each child ran in a race on the track to earn points for their house. Check out the photos from the day.
YEAR 6 PRODUCTION -JULY 2017
We performed our end of year production 4 times over 4 days and each time, the audience thought that the talent was amazing! From mean Mrs Murdstone to the kind gentleman, devious Dodger to flower girl Flo, this play was performed with confidence and incredible acting, dancing and singing. Enjoy looking at a selection of photos of scenes throughout the play.
NOTE: All the props and backdrops were designed, drawn, made and painted by all the children a couple of weeks prior to the play.
Greek Event 27th April 2016 Preparation
We baked Greek biscuits to share with our families.
Wednesday 23rd March
We had terrific fun on Spring Treat Day playing games in the playground.
